HORROR IN ENUGU SHRINE: Police Discover Decomposing Bodies, Arrest Suspected Ritualist Obi Levi Obieze, 3 Accomplices
The police had rescued the teenage girl, who was found in a shrine believed to be operated by Obieze. The shrine, located in the suspect's hometown, became the scene of horror when police discovered two decomposing bodies hidden in a pit sealed with concrete. Three suspects linked to the abduction were earlier apprehended by the Enugu State Police Command, while Obieze had fled and remained at large until his arrest by the NIS at Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Seme Road.
The Enugu State government had demolished Obieze's properties in his hometown of Umumba Ndiagu in line with the state's anti-kidnapping laws. The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, stated that the demolition was carried out on Tuesday, May 27, in accordance with Section 315 (Second Amendment) of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 30, Laws of Enugu State, regarding property linked to kidnapping.
The government lauded the role played by vigilant community members and collaborative efforts from both civilian and state security operatives in uncovering the crime. It stressed that it would not tolerate any form of criminal activity in the state and called on community leaders to be watchful and report suspicious activities to the government and security agencies. Those who cover up for such criminals will also be treated as accomplices, the government warned. The arrest of Obieze and demolition of his properties serve as a warning to others involved in similar activities that the state government will not hesitate to take drastic measures to ensure justice and security for its citizens.
