JUSTICE DENIED: Family Of Nigerian Man Killed By Swiss Police Seeks Answers, Accountability, And Transparency In Probe

A human rights lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has demanded a thorough investigation into the killing of Michael Kenechukwu Ekemezie, a 39-year-old Nigerian man who died after a violent encounter with Swiss police in Lausanne, Switzerland. A viral video shows Ekemezie pinned to the ground, crying out in pain and shouting, "You're hurting me," bearing similarities to the infamous murder of George Floyd in the United States.

Ejiofor, also counsel to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has submitted a petition to the Swiss Embassy in Nigeria, demanding an immediate and transparent investigation. He called for the identification, arrest, and prosecution of all officers involved in Ekemezie's killing. Additionally, Ejiofor sought compensation for the family, repatriation of Ekemezie's remains to Nigeria, and assistance for the family.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with Nigerians and Africans residing in Switzerland protesting to demand accountability and transparency. Ejiofor emphasized the need for fairness and accountability in the investigation, stating, "Justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done." The Nigerian government is urged to demand answers and justice for its citizens, while international human rights organizations and civil society groups are called upon to shine a light on this gross injustice. The case highlights the importance of police accountability and the need for transparency in law enforcement.
