KANO SPORTS TRAGEDY😭💔: Bus Carrying Athletes Falls off Bridge, 19-21 Confirmed Dead - Watch How It Happened

A devastating accident has claimed the lives of dozens of members of the Kano State contingent who were returning from the National Sports Festival in Ogun State. The incident occurred on Saturday, May 31, 2025, around 9 am in the Kura Local Government Area of Kano State, when the vehicle conveying the athletes fell off a bridge in the Kura area.

The bus, which was the last of eight vehicles traveling with the Kano contingent, was carrying at least 35 people, including athletes, journalists, medical personnel, and administrators. Reports indicate that some of the occupants were confirmed dead on the spot, while others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the General Hospital in Kura for medical attention.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as horrific, with many victims sustaining serious injuries. According to Ado Salisu, one of the survivors, "We were traveling overnight from Ogun State after the completion of the National Sports Festival when the incident occurred." The Kano contingents had traveled with about eight vehicles, and the bus involved in the accident was the last one.

The exact number of casualties is still unclear, with reports varying between 19 and 21 deaths. According to the Kano State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, efforts are underway to provide medical attention and support to the surviving members of the contingent. Kwankwaso described the incident as a deeply painful moment for the entire state.

At least 19-21 people were killed in the accident, and several others sustained injuries and are receiving medical treatment. Authorities are working to provide support to the affected individuals and their families.

The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, expressed deep sadness over the tragic accident, while the National Sports Commission (NSC) also expressed deep sorrow over the incident. The Kano State Government has extended heartfelt sympathies to the affected athletes, officials, and their families.

This tragic incident has plunged the entire state into mourning, casting a dark shadow over what had been a triumphant and patriotic return for Kano's athletes. As the situation unfolds, the community comes together to mourn the loss of lives and support the injured.
