TERRIBLE CALAMITY Hits Niger Communities As 25 Lives Are Lost In Devastating Flood, 10 Others Are Missing

A devastating flood has ravaged Tiffin Maza and Anguwan Hausawa communities in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State, resulting in the deaths of 25 people, with over 10 others still missing. The disaster occurred after several hours of torrential rainfall on Wednesday night, which submerged and washed away over 50 residential houses with their occupants.

The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that operatives of the agency, along with support from the local government authority, local divers, and volunteers, rescued three persons - a woman and her two children. The survivors are receiving treatment for wounds and shock at Mokwa General Hospital.

NSEMA's Director-General, Abdullahi Arah, stated that the search for more bodies is still ongoing, with 21 corpses recovered so far. The agency is working tirelessly to locate the missing individuals. The flood has brought immense destruction to the communities, leaving many without homes. As the search and rescue operation continues, the affected communities are in dire need of support and assistance. The incident highlights the importance of disaster preparedness and response measures to mitigate the impact of such natural disasters. With the search operation still underway, the death toll may rise as more bodies are recovered.
